My Language 4 Self-assessment 2024

Well, the year is almost over.

I accomplished one of the goals I set for myself at the start of the semester—kind of. My Use of English grades were a bit higher this time.

It was a great year; I love being here and studying this. I didn’t feel that English 4 was too hard. I mean, I failed the phonetics midterm, I know, but I had great grades in the other components, so that has to count for something.

About feedback…I don’t know; I still struggle with it. I had to analyze everything I heard a thousand times to give proper feedback. It was even harder when the people I had to give feedback to were excellent at what they were doing; I didn’t know how to fill the required time! But anyway, it’s done now.

Receiving feedback from Language 6 students was fun. I felt appreciated by their comments and motivated to keep improving. I also received feedback from a Language 2 student who said that I have very good pronunciation. That felt good because I can see my improvement over the years.

I’m nervous about next year, though. I don’t know if I feel ready to go to schools yet, but I’ll have to, haha. I’ll study over the summer to feel more prepared, but well, that’s life.

See ya!

Once you’ve revised your essay, read it aloud to a small group or the entire class to practice public speaking and enhance your communication skills.

Content Knowledge (CK)

  1. Essay Structure and Content
Write a well-organized essay with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The essay should focus on who your favorite artist is, their genre, notable works, and why you admire them.
  2. Clarity and Argument
Make sure your reasoning is clear—why is this artist your favorite? Use examples of their work or achievements to support your argument.

The TPACK integration in this activity combines technology, pedagogy, and content to enhance learning. Students use technology (Google Docs, Gmail, Wikipedia) for research, drafting, and peer review. The pedagogical approach focuses on reflective writing, peer feedback, and oral presentation, promoting collaboration and communication. Home workshop week 9: International Faculty second session

In the last session with Ms. Gleason, we kept exploring how AI can be used in education, especially focusing on tools like ChatGPT, which we’ve been using a lot to help assess student work. It’s been super useful for grading, giving feedback, and coming up with creative ideas for lessons. AI is definitely a time-saver, and it can help improve the quality of what we do as teachers.

We also talked about some important stuff like copyright and plagiarism. Ms. Gleason reminded us that while AI is awesome, we still have to use it responsibly, especially when using other people’s materials. It’s something we need to keep in mind, and it’s important to teach our students to do the same.

During the activity, teacher James asked us to share the link to a previous AI project we worked on. In my group, we used different AI tools to make our activity more engaging and interactive, which was a fun way to see how technology can improve our work. Overall, the session really highlighted how important it is for us, as future teachers, to keep up with AI and make sure we’re using it in smart, responsible ways.

Reflecting on the sessions, I feel like I’ve gained a lot, especially when it comes to understanding how AI can play such a big role in education. Despite the classes being online, I found it easy to stay engaged, thanks to how clear and approachable Jesse was. One of the main things that stood out to me was learning about the SAMR model, which I think is going to be really helpful for how I approach using technology in the classroom.

I’ve also realized that staying updated on new tech isn’t just important, but necessary if I want to keep my future students interested and engaged. The idea of constantly evolving as a teacher really stuck with me, and it’s made me even more motivated to seek out opportunities that will help me grow professionally. Overall, these sessions have inspired me to stay curious and proactive in my learning, and I’m excited to see how these new tools will shape my teaching methods.

SCRIPT:

B: Hi, sorry. I know I’m a little late, but it’s really coming down out there. I also had to stop by the Merced kitchen to check on something. You’re never gonna guess! Turns out they are totally available on Labor Day for our wedding.

K: Why am I always the first one to arrive?

B: Um, did you not hear what I just said? They’re available for our wedding on Labor Day!

K: Let’s just order. I’m starving.

B: I don’t want to fight about this, but I really feel like this whole wedding planning thing is just falling on me. What’s the matter? Tell me, are you having second thoughts?

K: Have you noticed how exhausting it’s been ever since you moved back in? The other day, we had a three-hour fight because I used a towel to wipe off my mouth while there was still toothpaste on my face.

B: Well, how is someone else supposed to use it when you leave it like that?

K: Living together is supposed to be a trial run, and I gotta tell you, we’re failing it.

B: Thank you for finally saying something truthful. Where has that guy been? Where have you been? You’ve been completely aloof, totally remote and distant. It’s like I don’t even know you anymore. I feel like you’re silently judging me. What do you want anymore? Do you even want this wedding? Do you even want to marry me?

K: Maybe I don’t!

B: What changed? Was it something I did? Because… because you know I love you. I love you so much, and I know we can make this work.

K: I love you too, but we’re just kids. Look, we had a great run, but let’s just call it quits before we completely hate each other.

B: I will never forgive you for this.
